I can’t decipher the Kanji on this label, so I am not sure what the fabric is. It seems to be very smooth, and gives the impression of either cotton or hemp, in a lightweight summer plain weave. A full bolt is approximately 14” wide (width of a traditional Japanese loom) by 11-12 yards long. It is hand pattered using the Yuzen dyeing process. Yuzen (Painted within resist areas) “you zen”

Yuzen dying is labor intensive, involving the laying down of thickened rice paste or other glue as a resist to define the edges and contain dye from spreading as it is painted into each part of the pattern. Yuzen dyed kimono sometimes have gold or metalic leaf applied after the dyeing is completed.  This is a quality bolt.
