Wool Kasuri (Ikat) Woven Full Bolt Japanese Fabric
Wool Kasuri (Ikat) Woven Full Bolt Japanese Fabric
Full bolt, enough for a Haori Jacket, 570 Centimeters or 18.7 feet by approx 14” wide, the width of traditional Japanese loom. Includes pattern for making kimono!
The motif, the hemp leaf ( Asanoha), symbolizes vigor and growth in the Japanese culture.
Kasuri (Ikat) is a technique in which warp yarns, weft yarns, or both are mounted on a frame, and then bound in thread (tied to prevent dye penetration, i.e. tie dyed) and then dip-dyed. The threads are then dried and loosened, and then carefully woven on a loom to form the pattern. The variabilities in alignment yield a soft fuzziness at the edges of the motifs characteristic of the technique. Kasuri textiles are produced in silk, in a wide range of colors in ramie, in cotton, and wool, and are typically indigo-dyed.
